2017 Goals

It’s a new year and I have some goals or New Year’s resolutions if you like. Last year I focused my goals heavily on what I do online – blog. This year I’ll be taking a step back and focus on offline goals a little bit extra. I’m hoping that what I do offline will inspire me to share it with you here so please stay for the ride.

1. Apply for a UK Citizenship

I’ve lived in the UK for over 7 years now and after five, I’ve been able to apply for a UK citizenship. I’ve been toying with the idea for years but it wasn’t till after the Brezit results came in that I took the decision to fully go through with it. Not because I’m scared of being kicked out (I don’t think so) but because if I’m going to stay here for a long time, I want to be sure I can have my say by voting in big questions. I’m able to vote in Sweden where I don’t live and the results won’t affect me but not in the country I live in.

I have invested in the books to study for the test and I have also started to save up money for the certificate. Realistically, this probably won’t happen till late in the year but it’s still a goal of mine Wish me luck!

2. Read 12 Books

I used to love reading and did it quite a bit before. I honestly don’t know why I don’t anymore but my guess is a mix of blogging, social media, Netflix etc. I do miss it and I’ve got a big box full of books that needs reading. Yes, I could so with investing in a shelf but I’ve not found the right one yet. I’ve set my goal to 12 books in total and I think that’s realistic seeing I only read one in 2016; The Girl On The Train. If you have any suggestions on books I should get my teeth in, let me know!

3. Gain an Events Management Diploma

At the end of last year, I was approached by NCC Home Learning asking if I would like to attend one of their online courses for free in exchange for writing a post on my blog. At first I didn’t want to take on something new that I might not have the time for but looking through the list of course options I jumped at joy when I saw I can get a diploma in Events Management. I already plan and host events through work and it’s something I really enjoy so I see this as a great achievement and something useful to be able to put on my CV.

4. See More of Europe

I love travelling and this year I want to see more of Europe. I can tick off a lot of countries and cities far away but I think it’s time to tick off some destinations closer to home. I’m thinking one longer trip, to Madeira hopefully and two shorter weekend city trips, Dublin and Prague. Of course, I’ll be going back to Sweden a couple of times as well, already at the end of this month.

5. Stay Active

I want to feel good about myself and the best way to do this for me is to stay active. I will continue going to the gym twice a week to strengthen my core, buy a new pair of running shoes and try to go twice a week, start cycling to work again when the weather picks up. I’m also hoping to complete the three peaks this year so if I want to see that through it’s really important to keep active. Sitting in front of a computer eight hours a day at work and most of the time on the sofa at home every day isn’t good.

The list could go on but these are my 5 top goals for the new year.ย What are your goals in 2017? Big or small, please share.
