Walking the catwalk for the first time

23rd July 2015 Comments : 2

A couple of weeks back I was fortunate to take part in a fashion event, walking the catwalk for the first time. When the opportunity was given to me I didn’t hesitate to say yes. I was obviously really scared that everything would go wrong but most important I knew it would be a great experience and I was right. When I think back on the night I remember how much it boosted my self confidence.

The event

Bonmarche catwalk

The event was held by Bonmarché at Lambert’s Yard in Leeds. I’ve never been there before but the upstairs room is great for a catwalk event like this. Lovely interior with wooden floor and white walls. it felt like an old fashioned gallery and I suppose the paintings and photographs on the walls helped to portrait that feeling.

We got tokens to use at the bar and a drink was exactly what I needed in order to calm the nerves. I had time to try on some of the clothes before and also chat to the other bloggers who would be modelling. We had some lovely canapés as well, although I didn’t have much of an appetite until after the catwalk.

Professional make-up

I’ve never had my make-up done professionally before but it was offered so I took the opportunity. The girls from the local college were lovely and the one doing my make-up took advice from me and listened to what colours I normally use. She did a great job and I looked like me but just a tiny bit better 😉

Bonmarché AW collection

Bonmarché was new to me prior to the event but I’ve been told it’s more popular amongst the slightly older generation. I didn’t mind, I still thought it would be fun walking the red or slightly pink carpet.

The clothes I was wearing is probably not anything I’d pick out for myself but I was gladly surprised that I fit a size smaller than normal and that all the clothes had a great fit to show off the curves. I loved the jeans as they were plain and my favourite piece was the dress I wore last out.

The catwalk

I was first out on the catwalk and very nervous of how to act and what to do with my arms and all the other body parts. Luckily it all came naturally and the arm on the hip is a thing! I forgot to smile when I was walking in a straight line. It wasn’t until I saw a friendly face and the camera man that I started to smile.

We did two-three changes for each theme and it was stressful but we pulled it off. Changing in 1-2 minutes time isn’t easy but luckily I had my hair down so it was easy to fix after each change.

It was great to here the people clapping and sheering for you walking down the catwalk. Such a confidence boost having people looking at you and the clothes I was showing. Great crowd to be amongst.

The modelling bloggers

We were five bloggers showcasing the products, two for plus size and three of us for the regular collection. I don’t think anyone of us had done this type of thing before so I was in good company. Bee from QUEENBEADY, Kristina from MODE of STYLE, Kellie from BIG FASHIONISTA and Malin

Thank you so much Bonmarché for inviting me to model for you. I had a great time and would love to do it again. More pictures of me on the catwalk will come.

Have you ever modelled? What do you think?
