Oasis dark green midi dress

When do you start looking for Christmas outfit ideas? At work, we are asked to save the Christmas party date already in spring time and come October, we know the theme for it. This is usually when I start to look for dresses and outfits to wear. But it’s not only the company Christmas party I need an outfit for, during the build-up to Christmas there are also Christmas dinners and smaller parties to go to. As much as I love wearing something new each year, I feel bad for only using a dress once. Oasis kindly sent me one of their Christmas dresses*, challenging me to style it in three different ways. I’ve had so much fun with it! I love that with different accessories and other pieces of clothing, an outfit can change so much. The following outfit ideas are easy to replicate with any dress to suit the occasion.

1 – Wear it on its own

Let’s be honest, sometimes less is more. For my first look and the one I’d wear to a formal party, I wanted to show of the dress on its on. I love that it has a mix of texture: velvet and sheer with angel sleeves giving it a feminine look. There’s a zip at the back, only going half way up leaving a bit of skin before fastening with small buttons in the neckline. I normally don’t like open back dresses or tops as I can’t go bra less but this dress covers your lower back which is great.

I know that it’s too cold not wearing any tights, hence why I have at least covered my ankles with a boot to keep some heat (who am I kidding?!). It may tone down the dress a bit but as I’m more of a rocker girl than a princess, I get away with it as the dress is towards the cutesy direction.

I’ve been sparse with jewellery not wanting to take away focus from the dress but still bringing a bit of bling. Small star earrings with matching hair clips*. Christmas is the season to sparkle.

2 – Wear it as a skirt

For chilly winter days, layer it up! With tights, warm boots and a cute jumper the dress feels more casual and is perfect for a day time look. Layering it with a jumper it gives the dress a look of a skirt. I love that the lace scallop neckline of the dress is still showing under the crew necked jumper. It highlights this cute touch so much more than when wearing the dress on its own. Keeping the tights, jumper and shoes in the same colour the look doesn’t feel “too much”.

I chose to wear my hair up for this look and picked small stud earrings (matching the dots on the tights), to show of the bow embellishment on the shoulders of the jumper*. It might be a casual look but I’ve not left out the sparkle.

3 – Wear it as a top

Another layered outfit but this time, wearing the dress as a top. This works well if the dress has a tight fit and you own a skirt that’s fits over it, with no trace of there being a second skirt underneath. Like I’ve mentioned before, the upper half of the dress is so cute so it would be a shame not showing it off and re-purpose as a top. Since the skirt is long, I’ve gone for a low heeled pump not to cut off my legs. To match the studs on the shoes and bring more sparkle, I’m wearing a pair of classic silver hoops**. They’re twisted to give a bit of texture and more bling as the light hits them.
