Yorkshire puddings or pancakes? What’s your pick? Last year I said pancakes without any hesitation as they’re so variable. Savoury pancakes with salmon and cream cheese – yummy. Sweet pancakes with ice cream and chocolate sauce – also yummy! Yorkshire puddings – only on a roast dinner. After eating at The York Roast Co. in York*, I’m prepared to change my answer.
The York Roast Co. ChoccyPud Wrap
The York Roast Co. are famous for their YorkyPud Wrap – a roast dinner wrapped up in a Yorkshire pudding. It made this family owned company go viral a couple of years back. For pancake day this year, they again broke boundaries serving up a sweet Yorkshire pudding wrap. Their ChoccyPud Wrap is fully packed with cocolate richness. Chocolate, chunks of gooey brownies, crushed Oreos and a crumbly Flake is all wrapped up in a giant Yorkshire pudding, topped with a dollop of cream.
Never would I dream about eating a sweet Yorkshire pudding but since having this, it’s all I crave. The only thing I’d change is adding cream in the filling, not only at the top. Towards the bottom of the wrap, the chocolate is slightly over powering. For now, the ChoccyPud Wrap is only available until the end of April but if it sells well, there are rumours a full range will launch, maybe even a shop dedicated only to sweet wraps. Please get yourself to York or any of their other shop locations and try one. I want a full range and shop full of sweet Yorkshire puddings! Imagine a rhubarb pie version…
The York Roast Co. Menu
I had to dive straight into the sweet treats in this post but The York Roast Co. menu offer so much more. If you fancy the sweet wrap as a dessert, I recommend going for a box meal as your main. Choose from turkey, beef, pork, ham or vegetarian and as many additional extras as you want. You can even add extra Yorkshire puddings if you don’t think the one the roast is served in is enough. I love stuffing so I went for an extra stuffing ball with my turkey Yorkshire pudding.
The Yorkshire pudding meals are served in black paper takeaway boxes which serve as a plate when unfolded. This is perfect as you can either order as takeaway or eat in. I have walked past The York Roast Co. in York many times previously but I never knew they have upstairs seating. I love their yellow feature wall with Yorkshire themed pattern. They also have wraps and sandwiches depending on your fancy, convenience and if you’re here for dinner, lunch or simply crave a lighter snack.
Have you ever tried a Yorkshire pudding wrap? Would you try the sweet chocolate option? What other sweet fillings would you like to try?
*I was kindly invited by The York Roast Co. to come and try their menu at their shop in York on Stonegate in return for this blog post. As always, words, opinions and photos (unless otherwise stated) are my own.
