Those of you who have tattoos know how important it is to take real good care of it when freshly inked. Tattoo aftercare that makes sure it heals well and doesn’t dry out. It’s equally important to take care of them long after that and I’ll be honest, I’ve not been the best. Sure, I pamper my body regularly with scrubs and moisturising but not until I discovered Stories & Ink I’ve not treated my inked skin any different to the rest of my body.
I discovered Stories & Ink a couple of months ago via Instagram and saved to buy for later. I also entered one of their competitions and guess what, I won! Last month I received their Tattoo Aftercare kit and I’ve used it regularly since then. My tattoos have gotten a new life, they look more vibrant. I must say I love the branding as well. Simple but effective. And the tattoo drawings inside of the boxes, how cool!
Stories & Ink Tattoo Care Kit
Stories & Ink offers five different tattoo aftercare products. Skincare products that looks after your tattoo, whether it’s fresh ink or an oldie. No parabens, cruelty free, vegan friendly and appropriate for all skin types. Win, win, win, win!
Using all five, or in my case four, products together your tattoos will stay nourished, hydrated and look more vibrant. All the products are cruelty free and vegan friendly. The products include aftercare balm, a scrub, daily moisturiser, body oil and vibrancy serum. All but the aftercare balm, which is fragrance free, has a lovely subtle but fresh smell. Sort of like a unisex perfume. The aftercare balm is only for fresh tattoos, whereas all the other products can only be used on healed tattoos and non-inked areas.
Step 1 – Repair
The time just after having a tattoo done is crucial. Your skin goes through many different phases so it’s important to keep it hydrated. The worst part for me is always the itchy stage. It’s so hard not to itch back but with the right cream you can help sooth it. I don’t mind the flaky stage but equally then, it’s important to keep the tattoo hydrated.
Stories & Ink’s Aftercare Cream helps with this. I’ve not tried it myself but keeping it safe for my next tattoo. Yes, there will be one for sure. I don’t know when or what yet but I know more will come.
Step 2 – Cleanse
Like with normal skin, tattooed skin enjoys regular exfoliation. It’s good for the tattoo as it removes dead skin and brightens pigment. Stories & Ink’s Exfoliating Body Wash is natural and feels gentle on the skin. You can use it on non inked skin as well but I like to only use it on my tattoos.
Step 3 – Hydrate
I’ll admit, I don’t moisturise my body every day. I used to but don’t feel the need anymore. What I do try to keep up is always to make sure I protect my tattoos from the sun. Sun will dry it out and fade the tattoo so it’s important to use sun screen on summer days but why not all year around to make it a habit?!
Stories & Ink’s Daily Moisturiser has UVA/UVB filters to nourish the skin and protect it from fading and discolouration. It’s very thin so when I first opened the tub it went all over. I’m more careful now and you only need a little (peas size) to cover a large area of the body.
Step 4 – Define
For days when you want to give your tattoos a bit of a definition, this Highlighting Body Oil from Stories & Ink is the one. It comes in a spray bottle and the spray is quite forceful but once on skin, it’s nice to rub in. It has coconut base but the oil is lightweight and it leaves your skin feel grease free.
Step 5 – Protect
The overnight Vibrancy Serum contains Amino Acids to safely brighten tattoo pigment, whilst regulating the skin’s pH levels. This leaves you with a clear and even skin tone. It has a thick consistency, almost like Vaseline. It’s really nice to gently apply to tattoos, making the colours look and stay more intense.
How do you take care of your tattoos? Have you tried any of Stories & Ink’s products?
