• Portobello Road Gin

Classic Gin Cocktails with Portobello Road Gin

Gin is my go to spirit. Even more so when I learnt it’s the best if you’re wanting to keep your calorie intake on the low. A gin and slimline tonic is around 60 calories, compared to a pint of beer which is around 200. I have yet to decide which my favourite gin brand is, there are too many fighting for the top position, but I know a good brand when I see it. Ever heard of Portobello Road Gin? Of course you have but perhaps you’ve not been acquainted with some of the classic cocktails you can make with it. I was invited to a gin masterclass with…

  • Whitelock's Candlelit Victorian Banquet

Whitelock’s Candlelit Victorian Banquet in Leeds

For Leeds Indie Food, Whitelock’s threw a Candlelit Victorian Banquet, serving a feast across seven courses. A candlelit dinner on an already warm and clammy evening made the venue really warm. Like the Victorians, we neither had any air con. Across four hours, seven courses were served, all main course sized meaning it was a lot of food to be consumed. I don’t know how the Victorians did it, especially wearing all the clothes they did and most likely alongside more alcohol than we drank on the night (two glasses of fizz and an ale). Still, this food event is up there as one of my favourites. The table was…

  • Red Door Leeds

Red Door is Open in Leeds

Do you see cocktails and think; I have to try that, it looks so cool? I see them all the time but in most cases, I’m disappointed with how they taste. Coconuts, pineapples and dry iced cocktails all look super cool and are very instagrammable but don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Enter Red Door in Leeds. They serve quirky cocktails which also taste amazing. Red Door has a couple of cocktail bars scattered around the UK already and have now literally opened their red doors in Leeds. As soon as I saw they have gold glitter prosecco I had to say yes to the soft launch event. I’ve…

  • Be At One Boar Lane

Be At One Bar Became Two in Leeds

Leeds truly loves cocktails so I’m not surprised that Be At One Cocktail Bar decided for Leeds to be the first city outside of London with two bars. The one on Millennium Square has been open for a while now but I’ve never been to it. If I’m honest, I’ve confused it with the next door bar: All Bar One. Can you blame me? Setting foot in their second location on Boar Lane, and trying samples of 10 or so of their cocktails, I’ll never mix these two bars up again. Be At One is a cocktail bar through and through. Yes, they have a couple of bottled beers should…
