    Weekly Update #19

The weekly updates are back! So sorry for the break but I wasn’t going to post whilst on holiday and last week, I had too many other things to catch up on. How you’ve been? I’ve had a great first week coming back from holiday so it’s not been too hard returning. The lovely weather last weekend and with it being Eurovision week (my favourite of all year), has softened the blow. Japanese Food I’ve mentioned it before, I regularly try and go to Yo Sushi with my dear colleague and we always make sure it’s on a Monday to take advantage of their Blue Monday offer. We had a…

    When I met Måns Zelmerlöw

Tonight it’s finally time for Sweden to enter the Eurovision stage. Måns Zelmerlöw is representing Sweden with ‘Heroes’ and once upon a time he was my hero. It’s not until now that I think he can really sing, I don’t think I’ve ever heard him sing as good as in ‘Heroes’. About six years ago I loved Måns’ music and I always turned the volume up when his songs played on the radio. I tuned in when I knew he was going to be on TV but that soon faded, his role as host for ‘Allsången’ was too much. Even so, when he came to my then home city (Halmstad) I took…

Get ready for Eurovision | Part 4

It’s the final week, only seven days left till the first semifinal is live on telly. This week I’m taking a look at the second half of the second semifinal which includes Israel, Latvia, Azerbaijan, Iceland, Sweden, Switzerland, Cyprus, Slovenia and Poland. I’ll also give my thoughts on Germany who already have qualified for the final. Israel (Nadav Guedj – Golden Boy) This song reminds me of a young Justin Timberlake and *NSYNC in the verse. The chorus is all about Balkan pop. I quite like it, it makes me happy and it’s certainly something different. I’m not sure about the opening of the song as it’s not got anything to do…

Get ready for Eurovision | Part 3

It’s time to listen to the first half of the second semifinal. This is the semifinal where Sweden will perform and I’m really excited to see how it goes and what the competition is like. Lithuania (Monika Linkytė and Vaidas Baumila – This Time) I quite like this duet. Not too sure about her voice though, it’s quite high pitched. It’s better when the guy joins in and I do like the catchy chorus. The band helps as well, piano, guitar, drums etc. and I hope it will work really well live. Ireland (Molly Sterling – Playing With Numbers) Ireland are back to ballads and that’s what they do best, at least…

Get ready for Eurovision | part 2

Second week in of giving my thoughts on the songs competing in this year’s Eurovision. This week I’ll feature the second half of the first semifinal and also look at two countries who have already qualified for the final. Serbia (Bojana Stamenov – Beauty Never Lies) It’s a powerful song and you can tell that the singer takes this seriously, she sings from the heart. However, I can’t help but giggle a bit because the lyrics and the song doesn’t match: “Finally I can say, yes I’m different and that’s ok”. Two minutes in, the song changes to techno beats and that’s what I like. It’s a surprise you don’t see…
