One of my goals during the second lockdown was to try a new Sunday roast each weekend. An easy goal to keep as there are plenty of Sunday roast delivery in Leeds. As soon as restaurants open up again in Leeds, you can pop in and eat some of these delicious Sunday roasts in their original habitat. One of them sadly only offer delivery but that’s a great option for days when you don’t feel like making your own Sunday roast or fancy leaving the house. Yes, despite lockdowns there will be days when I won’t feel like leaving my flat.
I chose these four restaurants to order from based on food I’ve had with some of them before. Also because I’ve read great things about them, and because they’re all independents. Lastly, because I wanted to have a wide range of different Sunday roasts as possible.
Heaney & Mill Famous Sunday Roast
£15, including delivery
Using only the finest cuts of meat from their partner butcher in Ripon, Heaney & Mill offer Dry-aged Roast Beef, Roast Corn-fed Chicken Supreme, Roast Lamb or the Vegetarian Special of the week. All roast are served with Rosemary & garlic roast potatoes, truffled mashed potatoes, cauliflower cheese gratin, a selection of seasonal green vegetables, traditional Yorkshire pudding, carrot puree and red wine gravy.
I went for beef which I pre-ordered from their website during the week, ahead of a Saturday delivery. I kept the food in the fridge over night and then followed the accompanying cooking instructions on Sunday afternoon. It turned out super delicious. Honestly, the little details like rosemary on the potatoes, truffle in the mash and wine in the gravy really elevated this Sunday roast. I wouldn’t expect a pre-cooked meal to taste this good when re-heated but I can see why their roasts have become famous.
The Tetley Bar & Kitchen Sunday Roast
£13, excluding delivery
The Tetley Bar & Kitchen offer four different Sunday roasts: Ale Roasted Beef Topside, Supreme of Chicken, Leg of Lamb and Nut Roast. All are served with a Yorkshire pudding, seasonal vegetables, roast potatoes and gravy.
I went for chicken which I ordered the same day via Deliveroo. You can also order to pick up. I stupidly forgot to add Cauliflower Cheese as an extra (£3.50) but there was plenty of food to fill me up. A very traditional and perhaps not so much outside of the box Sunday Roast. The potatoes weren’t cooked very well but aside from that, tasty. I’m sure if eaten in the restaurant, the experience would be better.
£12, excluding delivery
Feed Leeds‘ Sunday Dinner menu differ from season to season and sometimes even weekly but standard is meat options, chicken option and a vegetarian version. Slow Roast Brisket, Smokey Pulled Pork, Fried Chicken with Sriracha are some of the options and on the day that I ordered they also had Pork Belly which I opted for. All are served with a variety of seasonal and unique vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, roasties and proper gravy.
I pre-ordered the Sunday roast on the same day for pick-up. You can also get home delivery via JustEast. I rang as soon as they opened up as I know their Sunday roasts are special and sells out very quick. It smelled delicious the whole car journey home and as soon as I got in I devoured it. Everything was cooked to perfection. I loved the extra slice of bacon to give it a bit of saltiness. I was so happy to see Brussels sprouts and parsnips as they’re my favourite vegetables. A right steal for that price!
£22, including delivery
byMölly offer a three course Sunday dinner experience with plenty of options for starters, main and dessert. The Sunday Roast options are: Pan Fried, Skin on Chicken Breast on the Bone, Chestnut Mushroom & Pine Nut Roast, Braised Lamb Shank, Pepper Coated Rump of Beef or Pulled Honey & Mustard Gammon. All are served with root vegetable mash, nutmeg cauliflower cheese, buttered autumn greens, sage & onion stuffing, and a Yorkshire pudding. The meat options also come with beef dripping & rosemary roasted potatoes, creamed shredded savoy cabbage with pancetta & peas and traditional red wine gravy.
I went for the lamb shank and for starters I picked Ox Cheek Croquettes with Aioli, To finish off, I had the Autumnal Crumble with Crème Anglaise.
I placed my order via Instagram DM at the start of the week and it was delivered promptly on the following Sunday. Everything came chilled, with clear cooking instructions. Within 20 min or so I had a full three course meal to enjoy. Everything was delicious. I couldn’t finish the roast as there was just too much. Sadly the massive Yorkshire pudding was a little bit burnt on the top which I left behind. I loved the lamb, the meat fell off the bone as soon as I stuck my fork in. I loved that it came with stuffing, and plenty. Who doesn’t love stuffing?
Have you had a tasty Sunday roast delivery during this lockdown? Have you tried any of the ones I’ve mentioned here? If not, would you after reading this? Where else in Leeds do you recommend I order from or visit when they’re allowed to open again?
