Do you see cocktails and think; I have to try that, it looks so cool? I see them all the time but in most cases, I’m disappointed with how they taste. Coconuts, pineapples and dry iced cocktails all look super cool and are very instagrammable but don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Enter Red Door in Leeds. They serve quirky cocktails which also taste amazing.
Red Door has a couple of cocktail bars scattered around the UK already and have now literally opened their red doors in Leeds. As soon as I saw they have gold glitter prosecco I had to say yes to the soft launch event. I’ve also heard rumours they have a cocktails that’s served with a balloon and lemon powder. I didn’t come across it during this visit but maybe if I ask nicely next time, they’ll serve me one.
As much as this is all about the cocktails, the interior of a bar also plays a massive importance to me. Red Door is nailing it! The upstairs interior is spot on and when I asked when I could move in they didn’t seem to have an objection to it so we’ll see. Red interior details and light can be tricky to get right as you don’t want the place to seem seedy but Red Door makes it work with brick walls, wooden tables, quirky paintings and industrial lighting. I especially like the skull themed paintings (go figure).
Back to the cocktails. At the soft launch event, we tried almost all the cocktails on the printed menu. If you ask for one that isn’t on there, be sure they’ll serve you it. these are some of my faves and why.
Prosecco | Gold Flakes
Unfortunately, I didn’t take a picture showing all the gold glitter but I promise it’s there. It doesn’t do anything to the taste of prosecco (which is good) but it looks mesmerising. The trick is to swirl the glass now and again for the flakes to show as they tend to end up at the bottom of the glass.
Cointreau | Sparkling Water | Lime Juice
Do you love The Body Shop’s body butters as much as I do? Have you ever tried their grapefruit flavour, or at least smelt it? I love it and always think; “If I could eat this I would” and now my dream has come true. This Cointreau Fizz taste exactly how that body butter smells. I love it and look how cute the bottle is which is comes served in. No risk for spillage on a drunken night out.
Absolut Vanilla Vodka | Passionfruit Puree | Passionfruit Syrup | Passionfruit Liqueur | Prosecco (in a shot on the side)
You might wonder what’s so special about this cocktail. Everyone serves them but never has it tasted as good as it does at Red Door. The foam is so soft and cloudy – yummy! Now tell me, do you take the shot of prosecco first or do you poor it in the cocktail? I poor it in.
Amaretto | Chambord | Whites | Sour Mix | Bakewell Tart
Well, if the Cointreau Fizz tastes exactly like grapefruit body butter, this cocktail tastes exactly like a Bakewell Tart. How fab to be able to mix one of the best bakes with alcohol in such a fancy way. And look at that cute mini Bakewell Tart slice to top it off. Spot on Red Door!
Bacardi | Gosling 151 | Absinthe | Rhum Orange | Luxardo Maraschino | Passion Fruit | Grenadine | Pink Grapefruit | Lime
You know how much I love skulls so obviously I had to try this Zombie Sharer. It’s recommended for 4 people but i’d say it’s just enough for 3 and Phoebe and I did a good job at finishing just between the two of us. It’s a fruity punch which is maybe more fun for the look of it than the taste. Even better, for each sharer sold, Red Door is donating £1 to The Tim Bacon Foundation in the fight against cancer.
Ketel One Vodka | Vanilla Liquor | Strawberry | Cranberry | Apple
Red Doors signature cocktail; The Disco Diva. How cute is this disco ball? A bit tricky to hold with only one hand as the cocktail is very cold which makes the outside of the cup slippery. Hold with two hands and you’ll easily sip up this strawberry cheesecake like cocktail. If there’s a big group of you this disco ball is available in a much larger scale, with added prosecco in the mix.
Have you had a chance to visit Red Door yet? You’ll find them in the alley way off Call Lane in Leeds, 7pm – 2am, expect on Fri-Sat when they open at 4pm.
