Are we finally getting spring? I thought we were heading there a month or so ago when I started to see crocus and daffodils in full bloom but then the weather took another turn. Only two weeks ago did we see lots of snow, even if only for a few hours.
Anyway, when I was out taking these pictures of my new spring essentials, it was really nice and warm. The sun was almost out in full and I could smell Spring in the air. A lovely hour before it clouded up again, but at least I got some decent shots.
Those of you who know me or, or follow me on Instagram, know that I very rarely dress in anything else than black. Black is the colour I feel most comfortable in but it doesn’t have a very spring feel to it. When Damart got in touch, I jumped on the chance to actually pick out something a bit more colourful and I got this blue trench coat*.
I have never heard of Damart before and at a first glance, I would say their main audience is middle-aged women. Saying that, I think brand like these are better for outwear and jackets, than other “hip” brands are, so I wanted to try one of their coats and really liked the look of this one.
Blue Trench Coat
I love the colour of this coat; it’s very fresh and an eye-pop but also not too out there. Blue is a good colour when you want to stay casual but not look all dull in full black. I’ve still got the black buttons to keep me in my comfort zone and not surprisingly, all my new accessories (bag and shoes) are black too.
I like the design of the coat, the collar has a nice cut and I like the bottom of the sleeves which are nicely decorated with a strap, fastened with a button. The belt is very useful when buttoned up to give both the coat and I a bit of shape. I do still prefer it unbuttoned; it’s a more casual look. I’m not a massive fan of the fabric; it’s quite plastic and creases very easily. Hopefully it’s just one of those things I have to get used to. On the plus side, it does have the perfect thickness for a spring day; when it’s a bit windy and even a few drops of rain.
Blue Trench Coat – Damart | Black Loafers – ASOS | Black handbag – ASOS
This trench coat is only £45 which is a reasonable price for a coat. It comes in three other colours; opal, powder and rose tea which all would make me look pale so the blue was an easy choice for me.
The bag and shoes are also new. After I had my purse stolen, I decided I wanted a smaller bag which still fits the necessities but that I can close easily and keep an eye on. I think this is a great size and I like the detail of an open zip with sued fabric at the bottom of the bag. There’s only one big compartment inside and a smaller for keys etc.
Loafers have been in fashion for a while now but I’ve just started to warm up to them and finally got myself a pair. I do need to get an extra insole for the right foot as for some reason it fits loosely and almost falls off when I’m walking. Other than that, they’re really comfortable. I usually find that with wider fit shoes, even though I necessarily wouldn’t say I have wide feet.
So these are my spring essentials; coat, loafers and a small handbag. What do you think of the look? What are your spring essentials this year?
