It’s Blue January and I feel like the only highlight of the month is that almost every single restaurant has a promotion on. It could end in a catch 22 being broke and spending more money than any other month of the year, to take advantage of all the January restaurant deals. I say it’s worth it to survive the dullness January brings.
If you’re looking to go, I’ve put together a list of restaurants I think you should take the opportunity to try out. I’ve also included a list of restaurants I’d like to go to this month as I might not go otherwise.
5 restaurant deals not to miss out on in January
Gusto is an Italian inspired restaurant with a fairly small menu but still varied enough to suit everyone’s taste. I have been plenty of times at their restaurant in Cookridge as it’s close to work so a nice place to visit for lunch. I’ve only been to the one in city centre, specifically on Greek Street, once and that was the first time I dined at a Gusto. I loved it. I love their tuna steak but any seafood here is amazing. The pizzas look incredible as well and you can never go wrong with a pasta, right. Ooo and their pork belly – amazing!!
Throughout January, they offer 50% off all food if you pre-book online. The offer is valid till the 31st, except Friday and Saturdays from 4 pm.
Another restaurant located on Greek Street is Neighbourhood. They only opened up last year, taking over from Carluccio’s. I’ve only been here once so far but I loved it! Even smaller menu than Gusto but everything we ate was finger licking good. They market themselves as a New York restaurant, serving up everything from sushi to croquettes.
In January they offer 50% the whole food menu and the offer is valid all month, except on Saturdays. Simply use JAN50 when booking online or over phone.
Issho, which means ‘together’ in Japanese, is a (yes you guessed it) a Japanese restaurant. They too opened up last year, at the top of Victoria Gate. I’ve been twice and both times enjoyed the tasting menu for roughly £100/person. The food here is incredible so you’d be a fool not taking advantage of their January offer.
A £30 set menu is available Monday to Friday at 12-2.30 pm and 5-6.30 pm, Same for Saturdays but starting at 11 and on Sundays between 11-4.30 pm.
More sushi! I love sushi, ha. Last year I was invited to try out Yo! Sushi’s new street food offering and I was over the moon to be invited to a restaurant I already love so much. All year round the have Blue Monday offers where almost the full menu drops to blue plate prices. In January, the offer extends to all weekdays, until the 19th.
Water Lane Boathouse
My local pub, further up the canal, serves the best pub food ever! Water Lane Boathouse have their own pizza oven and serve incredibly tasty fries. If you’re looking for lighter food and a more relaxed atmosphere, head here for 50% off pizzas, burgers and anything else you fancy from the menu.
4 restaurants I’d like to take advantage of their January offer
Another Japanese restaurant that opened up last year in Leeds. I’ve walked past plenty of times and it looks amazing from the outside. I have heard that the food price is a bit high for what it is so I’ve yet not been. In January they offer 40% off the menu, excluding Wagyu and lobster dishes. The offer is valid every day apart from Friday and Saturdays. You need to book in advance with a maximum of 6 people.
Blackhouse is a steak restaurant I have wanted to go to for ages but never got around to it. Maybe this month it’ll happen. They offer 50%off the food bill, excluding oysters and Chateaubriand. There should be enough options on the menu anyways. The offer is valid every day except Saturday evenings and you need to book online in order to take advantage.
I have never been to Shears Yard but I have heard they do a good brunch deal. Sadly this isn’t on offer in January but I would still like to go. Their offer gives you 50% off their a la carte menu. It’s valid Tuesday to Friday between 5.30 to 10 pm and 12-4 on Sundays. You have to sign up to their newsletter on order to receive a voucher.
Like their sister restaurant Issho, East 59th has a January set menu on offer. It’s valid every Monday to Friday and entails a 2 course meal with either a glass of house wine or a bottled beer for £15. A really good deal if you ask me. The menu is only small but for £15 it’s a bargain! I’ve been here a couple of times for drinks but yet to try their New York inspired food.
Have you ever been to any of these restaurants I’d like to go to. If so, what do you recommend I try? Have you found any other good deals that I haven’t included here?
