AD | Gifted*. I’m sure you’ve heard of CBD. It’s the ‘it’ word right now when talking health. I’ve been on the fence towards it but thought it can’t hurt to try, right?! I suffer from really bad period pains so when The Drug Store got in touch asking if I’d like to try their own branded CBD Oil I took it as an opportunity to see if it would help ease my period pains.
What is CBD Oil?
CBD is the easier way of saying Cannabidiol which is the real name. It’s one of hundreds of compounds in cannabis or marijuana but not the one that makes you high. That’s Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). CBD basically numbs the pain, without the mind affects. Sounds good, eh?
CBD oil then is the CBD diluted with a hemp oil. It’s the most common form of taking CBD, in the UK anyways. There are also capsules, gummies and cream versions. I’m not read up well enough to know the difference but I would assume the cream helps to rub on a specific area in pain.
There are different strengths of CBD oil. I received the 1000MG strength which mean 32mg in one full dropper to take daily. It’s easy to drip into your mouth. It’s advised to leave under your tongue for a minute or so, to warm it up, before swallowing. It doesn’t really have a taste.
CBD for Period Pain
I’ve not always suffered from bad period pains, they’ve just got worse as older I get. It usually only the first day or so when it’s really bad as well. You know when you feel so I’ll that all you want to do is be sick. Stomach cramps, headache, sweating, all of it! I don’t like to take pain killers but sometimes it’s just too painful to sit out naturally.
During my two most recent period cycles, I’ve taken CBD for period pain. I’ve taken one pipette worth of oil each morning, three or so days before the period starts and throughout the days of being on my period. Honestly, I’m so happy because the pain has severely eased. I hardly felt it at all which is great. Once the period was over, I stopped taking the oil.
I wanted to try the oil again during my following period, to make sure it wasn’t just a lucky coincidence the first time around. Second time around had the same result. I hardly felt any pain so my verdict?, CBD oil definitely helps easing period pains. If you get really bad pains like me, I recommend you to give it a try.
Other CBD Oil Benefits
Aside from reducing pain CBD oil could also help reduce acne, reduce anxiety and depression and help with cancer side affects like pain, vomiting etc. I’m sure there are other benefits of taking the oil as well. It’s a fairly new treatment I guess with lots more to come.
There aren’t only benefits though. As with most everything, please be aware of side affects like diarrhoea, changes in appetite and weight and feeling fatigue. I had none of these myself that I know of. The ‘number two’ isn’t the best during ones period anyways. Too much information? Sorry, not sorry! Perhaps the CBD oil side affects are more common when used regularly, I only use it for a couple of days at a time.
Have you tried any CBD oil yet? What for and what do you think of it? If not, would you be inclined to try it after reading this post?
*PR sample. I was kindly sent one of The Drug Store’s CBD oils to try in return for this blog post. Words, views and photos are as always my own.
