Last week I got a lovely e-mail from Anisha at All you need is Red Lipstick, letting me know I had won her lovely competition. A couple of days ago I received the prize which included her favourite red lipsticks from four different brands.
I love red lipstick, not to wear myself, but when I see it on others I think it’s a great colour pop to any ones make-up. I’d love to be more comfortable wearing red lipstick myself and I do believe that with brands like Revlon, Rimmel, Maybelline and Sleek MakeUP it is possible. I’ve tried and tested all four and here’s what I think.
COLORsensational, Red Revolution | Maybelline
This lipstick looks bright red when you first look at it but once on the lips it’s a bit more subtle. It’s easy to apply and with the pointy tip you can easily stay within the lines. It has a nice texture to it which blends in well with the lips without any stickiness.
Apocalips, Lip Velvet | Rimmel
This lip gloss has a dark, rusty red colour. It is easy to apply with the little brush at the top. It’s not at all as sticky as I would have thought. When applying it on the magazine I could see how greasy it is but nothing I notice when wearing it. It does however feel like I’m wearing an extra layer on my lips and I’m cautious to move them.
Matte Me, Rioja Red | Sleek MakeUP
This lip gloss is bursting with colour. It is as easy to apply as the Rimmel lip gloss although the brush is a bit more flat and longer. The lip gloss dries to your lips fairly quick, I guess that’s due to it’s matte finish which I really like. The colour itself is enough to stand out so no need for it to also be shiny. When coming off it’s looks a bit grainy, just like dried blood. Still it’s a lovely colour and great to use when wearing all black.
Colorburst, Red Velvet | Revlon
Another lipstick that blends in really well with the lips and cover up nicely. It’s got a darker tone to the others, more towards plume. I really like the colour as it’s not as striking red and it sits really well on the lips. It’s got a rounded stick which makes it a bit more difficult applying and staying within the lip lines but still worth it and I’m sure with some practice it gets easier.
I really like all these lipsticks but I can see myself mostly wearing the ones from Maybelline and Revlon as they have more subtle colours and they blend best with my lips. The other two are really easy to apply but they feel more like an extra layer on top of the lips. Out of those two I’ll probably wear the Sleek MakeUP the most.
Which is your favourite red lipstick?
