My Top 5 Events to Experience at #LIF17

It’s that time of the year again, it’s time for the Leeds Indie Food Festival (#LIF17) which this year is of course better and also more professional. It feels like only yesterday I was checking out which events not to miss at last year’s festival. Sadly, I did miss the “Chef” event at Belgrave and I will this year too as the tickets have already sold out – boo! Luckily, the festival has lots more to offer and I’ve listed my top five recommendations.

#LIF17 Launch

Alfred’s Meanwood – Dinnerbox

I used to live in Meanwood but I never went out for food. to be fair, the area is limited in restaurants to go to, I only managed to pop in for beers at East of Arcadia and Alfred’s a couple of times. Since i moved, a neighbouring sushi bar has opened up and I’d love to try it. During #LIF17 Alfred’s has partnered up with Hanamatsuri, The Hungry Bear and Zucco for a three course meal. I think it’s a brilliant idea and for £20 I’m in! 11th and 18th May.

Norse – The Spa Exchange

Harrogate based restaurant Norse is taking over The Corn Exchange for a Scandinavian inspired evening full of food, drinks, clothes and even a talk from Signe Johansen who’s written “How to Hygge”. Now I might be a bit fed up of the word ‘hygge’ (soz) but you can’t take the Scandinavian out of me so I think it would be a lovely evening. £10 deposit to secure a space on 12th and 13th May.

Ham & Friends – Food Styling and Workshop

On Saturday 13th, stylist Victoria Harley from Channel 4 Food has teamed up with Food&_ to give a workshop in food styling and photogrpahy. I’d love to go, however £100 is a bit steep on a budget like my own. If you’re keen on food photography (who isn’t) and want to spice up your Instagram #foodporn shots, make sure to book yourself in. There’s also a shared meal to enjoy.

200 Degrees – Chocolate Making

After attending a chocolate making class myself not so long ago, I can really recommend this. It’s not the same venue, nor the same teacher but I’m sure it’ll be great. Tyto Leodis will start with a tasting session, a science lesson and then you get to make two different types of chocolates. £40 on 14th, 18th and 20th May.

Tapped Leeds – Forest Gin

You didn’t think I’d leave out a gin recommendation did you? On Thursday 24th May, Forest Gin is giving an introduction to their award winning gin which is distilled outside of Macclesfield. £10 a session which takes place every hour 6-8pm.

Are you planning to go to Leeds Indie Food Festival this year? Which events will you be attending? Not sure yet, check out the schedule here.
