Breakfast at CAU In Victoria Gate

I’ve finally been to CAU. I’ve heard so many good things about it, especially the Sunday roast. Last weekend, I met up with fellow blogger ladies Charlotte, Victoria and Tina for what I thought was going to be a brunch date but CAU only serve it on Saturdays so we enjoyed a lovely breakfast instead. It felt a bit like a scene taken out of Sex and the City when they meet up every Sunday for breakfast gossiping away. Especially overlooking the stunning Victoria Gate shopping centre and Leeds might not be the first city you think of being in.

What surprised me is that before lunch hour, we were the only guests. Come noon and the restaurant started to fill up a lot more, I guess the roast was calling. It was nice having the place to ourselves for a little bit but soon enough, alcoholic drinks joined us. Little did I expect an own brand prosecco bottle to be served but doesn’t it look fab?! Tina and I figured it would be cheaper ordering a bottle between us than ordering two glasses of mimosa each which would easily have done.

Breakfast Menu

The breakfast menu, of course includes the classics, but I went for the meatiest option I could find: steak and eggs. I felt like I had to be a bit healthy so added extra mushrooms as well. It says they’re spicy but sadly I couldn’t taste anything of it. It would have been nice with a little kick to the dish but absolutely not necessary. The eggs are fried to perfection and look very neat too. The steak was delicious, tender, flavoursome with hardly any fat in sight.

Tina and Charlotte went for the sweet potato pancakes with pork belly and I must say they looked amazing and both plates cleaned I believe they’d tastes as good.

Dessert Menu

Indulging in lots of protein didn’t stop me from getting dessert as well. Dessert might not be a given option after breakfast but since it was a late one, why not?! I got curious when it said cornflakes and ice cream combined so I couldn’t resist ordering the Cornflake Sundae. A perfect Sunday for a sundae, ha! Cornflake and ice cream goes really well together so if you ever fancy cornflakes but you’re out of milk, you know to reach for the freezer instead.

Have you ever been to CAU? I desperately want to go back for booze brunch and Sunday roast dinner.

This sounds like an amazing breakfast spot – It’s nice to see a couple of kids option on the menu too…. but most important of course are the desserts – I’m definitely intrigued by the cornflake sundae!
